Support the Parent Advocate Program

Our upcoming Parent Advocate Program empowers parents with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to advocate for their child’s educational needs, especially when seeking accommodations or services through a 504 Plan or an Individualized Education Program (IEP).

How it works:

  • In‑person sessions at community locations

  • Hands‑on learning and role‑plays (emails, meetings, documentation)

  • Facilitated group discussions in a safe, collaborative space

  • Peer support and resource sharing

Parents will learn to:

  • Understand key differences between 504 and IEP and which fits their child

  • Document needs and communicate effectively with school teams

  • Prepare for meetings, request evaluations, and follow up

  • Track progress and resolve challenges constructively

The Beyond Story and Our Why

For over 20 years, raising multiple children, we’ve faced the challenges of navigating 504 and IEP plans. Looking back, I often thought, “I wish there had been more help for us, instead of so much trial and error.” Getting this process right makes all the difference in whether a child receives the support they need to succeed in school.

Every child wants something simple: a chance to fit in, to grow, and to be happy. That’s why we created our Parent Advocacy Program, so families don’t have to go through these challenges alone.

Now, we’re expanding to include an in-person Parent Advocacy Program, offering hands-on support, practical tools, and a stronger community for families navigating 504 and IEP plans.

What Your Gift Makes Possible

  • Curriculum & Toolkits: Plain‑language guides, checklists, templates, and meeting scripts

  • Community Access: Free local cohorts at trusted community spaces

One‑time Gifts

  • $50 — Materials for one family

  • $100 — Session supplies & refreshments for a cohort

  • $250 — Partial scholarship for one parent

  • $500 — Full scholarship for one parent

  • $1,000 — Interpretation/translation support for a cohort

  • $2,500 — Sponsor one full cohort session (venue + facilitation)

Monthly Giving (most impactful)

  • $15/mo — Print & digital toolkits for 3 families/year

  • $35/mo — Scholarship fund for one parent/year

  • $75/mo — Childcare/transportation support for a cohort

  • $150/mo — Sustains one cohort session each quarter

  • Renovation support: painting, flooring, accessibility upgrades

Furnishings & Equipment

  • Office furniture: desks, chairs, filing cabinets, conference table and chair for 20

Technology

  • Computers, tablets, and printers.

  • Secure Wi-Fi and networking equipment

  • Projectors & AV equipment for conference room

Timeline (Once Funded)

  1. Weeks 1–2: Outreach & enrollment

  2. Weeks 3–8: 6 weekly, 2‑hour sessions

  3. Week 9: Capstone—mock meeting & graduation

  4. Months 3–6: Follow‑up check‑ins and office hours

Where are sessions held? At accessible community locations (libraries, community centers, faith‑based spaces). Venues will be posted after scheduling.

Is there a cost to participate? We aim to keep cohorts free for families through donor support. Scholarships are prioritized when funding is limited.

Is my gift tax‑deductible? Yes. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. You’ll receive an emailed receipt for your records.
