At Beyond Bipolar, we believe mental health awareness should be a constant priority, for everyone, every month, and sometimes every second. But this month, we focus on men.
It might sound like a stereotype, but many men grow up being told they have to be tough, proud, and self-reliant. Because of that, they are often less likely to ask for help or confide in loved ones. To say the words “I feel broken,” even a little, takes courage. This is why we have so much more work to do when it comes to mental health awareness.
Mental health should be a topic everyone can speak about openly, without fear of judgment, criticism, or shame.
To every man reading this:
I am proud of you. It takes incredible strength to ask for help, but that first step can change everything.
I’ve walked a similar path for nearly 50 years. I had to take that first step too. And I promise you, it gets easier. You’ll begin to build a team of support, a network of family, friends, and professionals, whose only goal is to help you live a healthier, more balanced life that fits your specific needs.
The road won’t be perfect. There may be setbacks. But your resilience and determination will carry you forward. Your strength will lead you to peace. Even if this isn’t your first step and your still missing things for your plan, keep pushing forward. A journey is forever changing.
If you’re reading this, know that this world needs you. Never give up. You matter more than you know. You have so much more to give, and I thank you deeply for having the bravery to take that first step.
