BEYOND BIPOLAR CONTRIBUTOR GUIDELINES

Share Knowledge. Experience. Perspective.

Beyond Bipolar welcomes thoughtful educational contributions that can help individuals, families, and communities better understand bipolar disorder, mental health, and related experiences.

Contributors may include students, researchers, educators, healthcare professionals, advocates, caregivers, individuals with lived experience, family members, and others with relevant knowledge or perspectives.

Publication is selective, and all submissions are subject to editorial review.

What We Consider

Beyond Bipolar may consider original educational content including:

  • research-informed articles;
  • explanations of mental health topics;
  • student and academic contributions;
  • professional or educational perspectives;
  • advocacy and community perspectives;
  • lived-experience stories;
  • family and caregiver perspectives; and
  • other content relevant to Beyond Bipolar’s educational mission.

Content should be respectful, understandable to its intended audience, and appropriate for an educational nonprofit platform.

Evidence and Sources

Research-based, scientific, medical, or clinical claims should be supported by appropriate and credible sources.

Authors should accurately represent the evidence they cite and avoid presenting preliminary, limited, or correlational findings as stronger conclusions than the evidence supports.

Personal experiences and opinions do not require scientific citations simply because they describe an individual’s own experience. However, personal experience should not be presented as establishing a universal medical or scientific conclusion.

Medical and Clinical Content

Beyond Bipolar publishes educational information and does not provide individualized medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Articles discussing mental health conditions, treatment, medication, diagnosis, or other clinical subjects should be written with appropriate care and should not encourage readers to disregard individualized professional healthcare guidance.

Originality and Copyright

Contributors must have the right to submit the work they provide.

Authors retain ownership and copyright of their original work.

If a contribution is selected for publication, the author grants Beyond Bipolar a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to publish and display the work as described in the Contributor Agreement.

Authors remain free to use or publish their work elsewhere.

Third-party material, including text, images, charts, or other copyrighted content, must be appropriately cited and authorized when permission is required.

Artificial Intelligence

Beyond Bipolar requires disclosure of material use of generative artificial intelligence in the preparation of submitted content.

Use of AI does not automatically prevent publication.

Contributors remain responsible for the originality, accuracy, citations, representations, and final content of their work regardless of whether AI tools were used.

Conflicts, Funding, and Affiliations

Contributors are asked to disclose relevant professional or organizational affiliations, conflicts of interest, funding, sponsorship, and other relationships that could reasonably be relevant to a reader’s understanding of the work.

Disclosure does not automatically prevent publication.

Editorial Review

Beyond Bipolar reviews submissions for relevance, clarity, accuracy, appropriate sourcing, safety, and alignment with its educational mission.

We may request clarification, additional sourcing, or revisions before making a publication decision.

Beyond Bipolar’s editorial review should not be interpreted as academic or scientific peer review unless a separate formal peer-review process is specifically identified.

Editing and Final Approval

Beyond Bipolar may make or recommend reasonable edits for formatting, spelling, grammar, clarity, accessibility, organization, and consistency.

Changes that could materially alter an author’s meaning, conclusions, or interpretation will be returned to the author for approval.

Authors will have an opportunity to review and approve the final manuscript before publication.

Contributor Information

Contributors selected for publication will be asked to provide their preferred published name, relevant credentials or affiliations, a short biography, and optional relevant professional or academic links.

Beyond Bipolar may verify credentials or affiliations when they are relevant to how a contributor is presented.

An author’s affiliation does not imply that their institution or organization endorses the article or Beyond Bipolar.

Publication Documentation

Before publication, contributors may be asked to complete:

  • a Contributor Agreement;
  • a Contributor Disclosure;
  • Author Information & Public Attribution; and
  • Final Manuscript Approval.

These documents help establish clear publication permission, transparency, accurate attribution, and approval of the final work.

Publication Decisions

Submission does not guarantee publication.

Beyond Bipolar retains editorial discretion regarding whether, when, and how submitted content is published.

Beyond Bipolar may decline a submission or discontinue publication of content on its platforms.

After Publication

Beyond Bipolar may correct, update, annotate, archive, or remove published content when appropriate.

Authors retain ownership and copyright of their original work if an article is later removed from Beyond Bipolar’s platforms.

Questions and Submissions

Prospective contributors are welcome to contact Beyond Bipolar with questions about whether a proposed contribution may be appropriate for consideration.

Submitting work indicates an interest in being considered for publication but does not transfer copyright or guarantee publication.
